Fourtrak F75 chassis grease fittings

Forum:

hi forum,

I just bought a 1990 Rocky. I have to move the vehicle to the countryside this weekend and before that I would like to change all the oils and grease.

I downloaded the service manual for this car, in the maintenance section in MA-20 it says:

CHASSIS GREASE
check for chassis grease
Aplly grease to the grease fitting of chassis
...

my problem is that the car is sprayed with "black tar" on the underside. it covers and hides everything. I have looked for these fittings and found none. is there a picture missing in the manual? can somebody explain me where i find this fittings and how many are there?

thanks in advance

oran G

When it refers to the chassis

When it refers to the chassis fittings it actually means any grease nipples on the underside of the vehicle.

Three on each propshaft: one in the centre of each CV joint yolk and one on the side of the propshaft where the sliding joint is, usually this gets smashed off so you may need to hunt for a blocked hole and tap it out and fit a new nipple.

Every steering joint: originally they all had a grease nipple but many aftermarket items don't, and some are handed and the grease nipple may be on the wrong side, so search for them, clean, and grease.

found them

thanks for the replies, finally i had some time to look under my fourtrak, and after a bit cleaning i found all of the mentioned nipples, expect for the suspension.

beside that, i took her to do some offroad towing work and I heard a clicking when i turned the steering wheel fully (4wd engaged). I read in previous posts that this could be my CV Joints. I looked at them closely and there is some lubricant flowing out of them (quite hot here the last few days). is there a way to lubricate them without removing the whole axle? If lubricating wont help, I saw the joint on millneroffroad, but how do I know witch one to change? the clicking appears on right and left turns as well.

just for reference; there is a picture where to the grease nipples in the service manual pages SR-65 and PR-16

ignore the fact they click,

ignore the fact they click, just keep the swivel hub units topped with lithium grease, dont buy milner cv units, waste of money, original daihatsu will go on forever driven right.

The suspension ones are only

The suspension ones are only on leaf sprung models, and not all of them; these are on the spring hangers on the ends of the pins which go through the rubber bushes and often get knocked off.

If you go the How It Works

If you go the How It Works section it gives a write up on lubricating hubs, basically you have to remove them.

If you look at the front wheel centres it may have some chrome trins around the hub, if so remove it by prising it off, you will see the hub protruding through the hub, remove the 6 allen studs holding it, pull it off and follow the instructions in the how it works section for lubricating it. You don't need to take the wheel off or jack it up to remove a front hub.
