yrv vs yrv turbo

Forum:

good evening to you all,,,,,,, ive got a yrv turbo 53 plate, and yes ive had a gearbox problem as has everyone else im sure, but actually managed to get 1 for 400 sheets up in deby, anywho im rambling here.

my girl uses the car day to day for work, and yep youve guessed it, the dents are starting to mount up, so far im up to a rear door, bumper, boot and a front bumper(though the car came with that)

obv im having trouble finding anyone breaking a yrv turbo let alone it being in red, but feel im gonna have to settle for another colour and spray it,

question, is the body work excatly the same on a yrv as it is on a yrv turbo,,,,,,

and has there only been one mk of the yrv ??

thanks in advance for any replys

Hi and welcome to the

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

As far as I know the doors/boot and bumpers are the same (at least they are on the YRV Premium and the Turbo I'm sure, not sure about the YRV Redical/Lesser Spec models) Obviously the bonnet has a scoop....................;-) Also, there was only 1 mk as far as I know.

Send user DaihatsuDave a PM, he is breaking a silver? one. As to what is left on it I am not too sure at the moment.

The gearboxes..........the archilles heel of these otherwise fine cars. What went wrong on yours? Mine flashes D4 regularly, going to change the battery soon as apparently insufficient voltage causes it to fault on start up.

cheers for your reply mate,

cheers for your reply mate, defo opens up new doors to me , have messeged dave as well,

re gearbox, was fine for 2 years then all of a sudden, it started to not go into reverse at its peak for 20secs when the car had been running for 5 mins or more then it would smack you in to reverse so hard it made to car shake,
and yes i looked a proper idiot in tesco car park, and as its just to go from house to house every day it beame extremely annoying to say the least,
went through the ol dealer thing, give them a couple of hundread and the give the car back the same, had 3 mate mechnics look at it, no joy, changed fulids inc full 5 litre change. thought about getting a brand new box for her, but cryed when the told me itll be 2500 for just the part (no vat). then managed to find one on ebay about 150miles from house, for £400 had it a couple of months now, but since then ive found if once a week i go and rip around town in steer shift mode it sorts it out ish for a week or so, so now the girl glady lets me go rip it up :lol

though ive been informed that the whole enging has to come out to put them in, or at least thats what the bloke whos gonna put it in told me..

What a nightmare......When

What a nightmare......When mine flashes D4 in a morning, if you engage reverse it properly THUMPS into gear, same with engaging D4 but not quite as harshly. Once the light stops flashing and the numeral re appears in the display, it is fine. Sometimes it corrects itself, but I usually restart it which seems to cure it. It's completely random too. Stupid car. I love it though, such good fun. If my box dies, I will either set fire to the car or ATTEMPT to find a box. I simply cannot afford that sort of money if it dies. I think alot of people do not change the ATF at 56k (i think) or 6 years. PLUS there is a recently discovered (by us owners here) that there is a filter/strainer within the gearbox. There is no mention of it in the service schedule either. To get to it the pan has to come off, which according to one member is a pain in itself. The part is 40 odd quid from a dealer, and even then my local dealer said its a 4 week wait for it. I drained 2 litres from mine, re filled it then drained and so on, so hopefully it will suffice for now......
You were lucky to find a second hand box too matey Wink

Welcome

Have yet to see a red YRV Turbo in the flesh yet. The rarest of YRV Turbo colours out there. Followed by Black, then Silver and obviously Yellow. Smile

Yeah the YRV Turbo is a rare car, only 210 were introduced to the U.K by Daihatsu U.K. Having looked at the engine bay not sure if you can drop the autobox from the underneath.

As Wayne has mentioned, best giving DaihatsuDave a shout, he is very knowledgeable. Last time I visited his house he had a mjority of parts for sale.
