ez chill air con gas

Forum:

Has anyone used EZ CHILL to re-gas there air con, if so how did you get on.

It will only be R134a

It will only be R134a refrigerant. If your lucky waybe it night contain some super duper leak seal which is not worth even considering. I haven't come across this product, but many of there do it yourself canisters have a gauge on them which tells you when the system is allegedly charged. The only way to ensure a system is working properly is to pressure test it for leaks then evacuate it and then weigh go the correct amount of refrigerant and read both the high and low side system pressures. The molecules of R134a are very small and will fine their way out of the tiniest hole or piece of porous metal and as cars have numerous joints and o rings that dry out they are notorious for leaking. These cans will work but in my opinio its best to get a system tested and charged properly. Sorry for going on.......

air con works

I've just got my 2001 sirion and the air con dose work, as it's my first car with air con I don't know how cold it should be. It doesn't fill that cold. With the summer coming I want it cold, you cannot put a price on comfort.

Air con

Michael, read the post

http://www.daihatsu-drivers.co.uk/node/14973

which discusses air con. You need to run your aircon for a few minutes each week even during winter, to ensure that the seals are kept lubricated (the refrigerant contains lubricant for this purpose).

It's usually recommended that you have the system professionally checked and recharged every couple of years.

As a rough guide..... locate

As a rough guide.....
locate the small sight glass window on the thinner air con pipe. Its near the battery on the yrv. Once the compressor cuts in you'll see bubbles flashing in the window. With the revs at approx 1500 and after say 5 to 10 saeconds the bubbles should disappear meaning the window is full of liquid gas. If its full and the large air con suction pipe is cold/sweaty to the touch then chances are its as good as it will ever be. You could use compressed air to blow the condenser through too to enhance efficiency. You night find the compressor cuts out too soon in this booker weather so the sight glass may not clear in time. Mine clears almost straight away sometimes. If you buy a can and bang too much gas in you can do more harm than good.

Totally agree!!! don't waste

Totally agree!!! don't waste yer money and don't take risks with air con!!!!!!!!
There are loads of local mobile air con repair guys out there and most of them will do you a "refill" for about £30ish. I know my local chap is brilliant. Most of them are very expert and have all the right equipment.
I would also say, avoid those roadside signs that say "aircon repairs here - cheap" - they often don't seem to have a clue!

Sometimes my wife calls me Victor................

Air con systems contain

Air con systems contain lubricant and refrigerant, and these are put in seperately. Every vehicle is different, oil and refrigerant quantities vary, even between the same models.

As Wayne says, it is best to get it evacuated, pressure tested, and filled with lubricant and then refrigerant. This means you have a fully functioning system, and a warranty on the work.

As for the cans??? my advice would be to forget them. They do not contain the correct quantity of refrigerant for a vehicle. They contain no lubricant, and you can easily overfill them with dire consequences.

Many places do fills, and they are cheap, Qwik Fit charge £50 and fully test the system. If they find a fault they will not fill it, or even charge you for the testing.

Many aftermarket cans are

Many aftermarket cans are designed for measuring in pressure, and this is incorect. Air con systems have have their refrigerant and lubricant measured in weight, and not pressure as these top up cans advocate.

There are some safety issues worthy of consideration:

If you fill your system incorrectly and have a leak, this will freeze your hand quicker then you can move it out of the way. This will cause permanent damage.
If you get any into your eyes it will blind you.

This is reality and fact.

In addition you can be prosecuted if any refrigerant or lubricant escapes into the atmosphere. This is international legislation, not UK or European law.
