fourtrak archs

Forum:

hello does any one no of a good arch for the fourtrack 1991s as some times i am catching them when of roading wanted to cut the wing away a bit and raise them up!? are independent archs any better if you have 31" tyres?

Hoe tired are your springs?

How tired are your springs? I ask as I never had any problems with 31's on my old F80, on road or off.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

Hi.

I run 31/ 10.50's, untill I replaced all my missing bump stops to limit the travel, and replaced the leaf springs. The tyres were constantly hitting the plastic arches, thankfully I ony damaged non visible parts. No further problems. Well except having to crowbar the front mudflaps to get a bit more clearance on full lock.

Hi.

I have just fitted a new set of Enduro Runway tyres, 31x10.50x15 A/T,my second set. Previous set did 60 thou miles. Full spring set fitted, because wheel arches were getting damaged, when original Enduro's were fitted, all parts, gas axed/grinded off , new shackels + bolts ,bushes, hangers,u bolts , the works plus new bump stops, new Monroe gas shocks fitted proir to this as well, have problem with these as they bottom out with my replacment springs on full extension. The spring kit was from 'Milners', very stiff springs, work very well when loaded , but too stiff for two up and a wheelchair, solved that with my partners old wheelchair base cushions, we now have 4 inch adjustable air inflated cushions, saved me from welding up higher seat bases as well. I allso got a rather suprising/unexpected suspension lift with these springs. Lots of comments on these Milners springs on the site re their stiffness. I also soak mine with bulk WD40,not the spray can stuff to reduce the friction between the leaves, works well !!!!, and you do not leave a oil slick when wading.

Measure the ground to edge of wheel arch height and the axle to bump stop clearance and we can compare, front and rear. ( metric) Me thinks I have posted this on the site somewhere.

Also I have noted this setup pulls the front springs to one side of the spring hangers, I have noted posts re removal of , i think of the Panhard Rod, there are posts relating to this problem at present, not sure if I should try this modification, re legality, insurance and MOT. (if its not there it cant be tested ???).
