Forum:
hi,just had my f78 fourtrack motted and passed with flying colours,on the way home i noticed the sound of the engine had changed from before the mot and was a lot noisier and sounds flat. i was told they ref the engine very high, could this have damaged the engine.i have looked underneath and the exaust is ok,no leaks etc,i was wondering if any one else has come across anything like this.thanks
Dale

Noisy
What is different about the engine noise, is it clanking, knocking, etc; and is it actually coming from the engine, is the engine losing power or not pulling properly.
MOT tests require the engine to be highly revved for the emissions testing, it is not uncommon for slack or worn timing belts to slip a tooth, this would be noticeable by power losses.
Other suggestions would be that the internals (baffles) in the exhaust silencer have corroded and the high revs have dislodged or broken them up, this would give no outwardly visible signs. Hit the bottom of your silencer with the flat of your hand, reasonably hard, if it rattles it could be full of disintegrated rusty baffles which have become dislodged.
noisy engine
thanks for your reply assassin, ihave looked and banged every where cant see any thing at all but engine sounds a lower pitch than before and a little down on power and just doesent sound wright.so of i went to daihatsu in cardiff and asked if a fitter could have a listen,10 min later the fitter had a listen and agread that there is something not wright. ive now booked in for a full service and the same time have a look if they can do anything at all to make it sound and go better,by the way full service is £350+the look in to the clangy engine, she`s only done 70,000 miles .i will let you no how i got on
