Forum:
Hello All,
The radio in our humble J-reg Sportrak 1.6 ELXi is not receiving any power. I've checked the power cables with a multimeter and there's only 0.5v coming through. Is this a fuse problem? All other electrical components are working fine.
Problem is, I cannot locate an appropriate fuse anywhere. I've searched the forums here and checked a couple of suggestions given to others with radio problems, but to no avail. (The horn works, for example.)
It seems strange that any fuses pertaining to the radio are not readily identifiable.
Can anyone tell me what those 3 big fuses next to the battery do?
Any suggestions would surely be most appreciated, as we need our music urgently
Regards.

In-line fuse.
Problem does not lie on those big fuses next to the battery but check them just to be certain.
Radio usually has an 'in line' fuse. Get onto your back and look under the cowling for the radio cables. Somewhere in a dark hidden corner will be hiding the in-line fuse. Otherwise follow the earth lead and clean its earth contact which will give poor conductivity if corroded. Try a temporary earth cable to the radio's earth.
There is a chance the problem is the radio. Have you tried connecting it directly to a 12v battery?
Thanks Mace for your speedy response
Right, at least I now know there SHOULD be a fuse for the radio under there somewhere. The radio is definitely okay, for certain it's a power supply issue. I'll get my head buried under the dash with a torch. Cheers!
Radio
Dependant on the radio but their should be 2 power supplies on most modern ones, the first that is perm. Live to maintain the memory and the second that is IGN. Live. It is usually the latter that has the in line fuse although I have seen them in both
