Leaf Spring
That was good of them and nice to remember in the future.
I have never broken down a sprinG before and would assume that the clamps would have been longer on the 4+1 that the alternative.
I'm afraid if sending it back is not than option I would stick it on and see what happens. I'm sure they will come apart but you will still have the side bracket problem. Milner are a good firm but I sometimes wish all Factors would accept that we know what we want and either supply corrctly or say no. I had the same with the U bolts for mine the thread was far too large for the plate and I told them, returned them from France only to receive the same size back. I used the old ones. Daft thiNg was that later I needed a new plate and asked for the U bolts at the same stage. Over they came and yes youv'e guessed it the Ubolts were too large for the holes in the plate. I'm not in anyway knocking Milner as they are good.

general rule
Hi, the general rule of thumb with leaf springs is more is better but only if each leaf is thin, if the 4+1 is made of thinner metal than the 3+1 then you will be better off, youll have more artic, smoother softer ride and they will last longer, but if its the same then yes get the 3+1 cos it will act softer than the 4, but wont last quite as long. My personal advice though in the first place is DONT buy milner springs!!!!, they are solid lumps of girder, pro comp are much better - softer ride, more artic etc etc, but im not nocking milner as they are a fantastic company, but definitely use there bushes they are good.
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

Made in Nottingham from girders!!
Hi,
a few years ago I had some 2" lift springs custom made for my old Landcruiser by a spring company near Nottingham who advertised in the offroad magazines, I sent them my old Springs and they basically copied them and put more arch into the replacements, what they also did was put lots more steel into them!! The originals had 7 leaves in the front and 11 in the rear and each leaf was about 5mm thick, the replacements had the same No. of leaves but each was 11mm thick, when fitted they were solid!! they didn't budge for anything!!
I rang the company and was advised to remove the leaves one at a time until I found the right spring rate, even after I had stripped the front pair to a single leaf each and the rears to 4 leaves each in order to get some movement I still had an uncomfortably firm ride.
In the end I put the £400 and hours of time I'd wasted down to experience
I bought some better quality(read even more expensive!)springs from a better known manufacturer and scrapped the custom made ones. This is just a thought but Nottingham is close to Derby, Milners springs are badly oversprung and have the same no. of leaves as the Daihatsu originals but each is a lot thicker and have a little more arch :?.......Could it be the same manufacturer?
Anyway back to the point, to strip a leaf out of the spring clamp the spring near the centre with a large G clamp, undo the centre bolt and remove it, open the clamp to release the leaves and remove the No.4 leaf, (on a Sportrak I would recommend you remove the No. 3 leaf aswell while your at it as the spring is still likely to be too hard unless you carry four people and half a ton of gear on every journey) If any of the leaves have clamps on the end of them just bend them open to release the leaf, then fasten the G clamp back on, re-fit the centre bolt, and then your done. You will notice that the centre bolt is now too long but don't shorten it untill you have driven on the spring as if you decide to put a leaf back in you will need it.
best regards
Dave.
