Need thermostat for import.

Forum:

Hi again, well the new head gasket has been done, it had to be skimmed as was badly pitted. The cam belt was just about to snap, so that's been replaced.
Apparently my sporty is an import, and the guy doing it cannot get hold of a thermostat for it. The person who had it before me had taken the old one off...( nice of him to mention it) and as a result, the mechanic couldn't try to match it up, so does anyone here know where I can get one?
Is there a specialist in the uk at all?
Any advice would be great.
Thanks.... Jen

Thermostat

Go to a reputable motor dyi shop which carries catalogues of all types of thermostat. Give them your engine or vin number [see your log book] and they will match it. I suspect the thermostat is identical to UK parts for sporty. Its a longer/deeper thermostat version [new gasket + sealant is essential] and costs approx £20. Sporty thermostst is deeper so it fits well inside the engine block. Fit it will jiggle [hole/jiggle] uppermost so any air locks get pushed out the block. Get it wrong way up and the thermostat will not operate correctly. Tell your mechanic to take care when tightening the housing bolts .... no more than 5lb/ft or they snap!

PS .. I would expect the same engine to be in 'imports' as in the UK supplied vehicles. Consequently I would expect the same type of thermostat.

Hi it is a feroza....

Hi it is a feroza.... apparently, i need a thermostat for a carbouretor (sp?) model. Now I don't know what that means, so if anyone else does, that would be great.
Kind regards, Jen

Its a Sportrak

Feroza is a Sportrak. Ferosa is the name of Sportrak throughout much of Europe. If its a Ferosa it should be left-hand drive? I would anticipate its exactly the same thermostat as the Sportrak UK version either carb or injection models. Go to your local motor shop and present the vin number [from log book] and/or engine number [log book], model of cars etc. Any reputable dealer will have a stack of manufacturer/supplier catalogues and will quickly sort the thermostat for your car. If they say they 'dont know' then shop at another supplier. You should have no problem getting the correct thermostat for you car.

Thanks all, I have bought

Thanks all, I have bought one from Milner off road..... should arrive in the post early next week

Gasket and sealant

Jen ... make certain it is supplied with a new gasket. Also buy a tube of sealant suitable for 'water gaskets'. Without the sealant the housing in which the thermostat sits, will leak immediately or on dark night miles from home!

CHECK

Just check the temperature rating of your new stat, models from hot climates have thermostats of a lower temperature rating which open sooner and allow more coolant through.
