YRV TURBO , OIL

Forum:

I am going to change the oil and filter on my YRV TURBO, does anyone know what type of oil it uses., also the recommended type, magnetex, mobile 1 etc.

Oil

The recomended viscosity is 5w-30.
I use Lucas USA full synthetic 0w-30, its just a bit thinner for cold start up, not that it needs it, just my local parts shop had more in stock and let me have it alot cheaper. I pay about £7 per 1ltr bottle (marked £8.50)although you can get larger containers that work out cheaper per ltr.

Comma Syner Z is well worth the money compared to other leading brands. Comma and Mobil are the same company.
Be carefull which you choose there are longlife versions inc 0w and 5w types.

Avoid paying extra for the longlife varieties, our oil should be changed every 3k or at least twice a year so is not needed.

Nice One Dave, Just sent you an E-mail asking about Oil..

I know most turbo cars can take 0W-30 semi-Synthetic. Scoobies for instance can use 0W-30, although I know of owners of High Powered Turbo cars using 0W-40 or even 0W-50 fully synthetic oil. Not sure if the YRV Turbo counts as a high powered turbo car.

YRV Turbo Oil

As DaihatsuDave says it's 5W-30 for the UK, dealer tells me it is semi synthetic. Fully synthetic not worthwhile when its changed frequently.

BTW it's every 6,000 miles (6 months)for the YRV Turbo, unless you are using the vehicle in "severe conditions" which if you're urban driving, they probably are! Wink
