Sportrak Cambelt

Forum:

Hiya,

I bought a 1993 EFi Sportrak with 98k on the clock a couple of weeks ago, changed the rear springs (one was broken) and think I should change the Cambelt.

Is this simply:-
Empty Rad,
Rad out,
Cover off,
Slacken tensioner,
Remove belt,
Keep marks alined,
New belt on,
Tension belt,
Cover on,
Rad on,
Refill Rad,
Drive for 60k Miles,
Repeat the above...

Any help much appriciated

I marked and ligned up the timing marks first on the pully and case and found that the marks on the pully were in line when the cover came off. I then put the car in gear, with hand brake on, to prevent the engine from turning over easily.

What you have listed is about right you will have to remove the Viscous fan assembly, the alternator belt and the power steering belt. Finally the bottom pully. There is a bolt in the middle which I loosened before the above belts were off. Once undone leave the pully on , remove the two belts ensuring that the timing mark remain in position. Now the pully can be removed. etc etc.
I would replace all three belts to avoid possible failure later unless you want that rad out again.

Easy but take your time!

Count the teeth between each pully before taking off the belt. Counting teeth is useful to ensure the new belt does not 'jump' a tooth'. Align timing marks - if you can find any!
