Forum:
Hi all,
Just building a snorkel to fit my '94 rocky, and was wondering if I'm going into deep water, do i need to worry about my gearbox breather, or do i have one?
If so, where do I find it? I haven't really had a good look for one yet, so was hoping you guys could point me in the right direction? either that or laugh at me!
Anything else I should consider before sinking to the bonnet in water? I've sealed the dizzy and leads and things already...

water water everywhere except in places you dont want it.....
Hi mate,i cant remember about the breathers on the gearbox where they are but it will be on the top of the box, but the breathers on the axles will have to be moved, the rear one goes up and loops down onto the rear cross beam on the chassis, put long flexible pipe on it and cable tie it along the top of the chassis rail right up into the engine bay and up your new snorkel, the front axle is breathered up to the air box in the engine bay, if its the same layout vehicle we are talking about, do the same with this and take it up your new snorkel, watch the radiator getting covered in mud for cooling purposes and any other vital ignition bits etc, but going underwater is actually best avoided but damn its lots of fun.
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

On the F series Rockys,
On the F series Rockys, there are breathers on front and rear diffs, gearbox and transfer case. The rear diff breather extends up and into the chassis cross member, at the high point, above the rear diff. The front diff breather comes up the left hand side of the vehicle, and should loop around behind the windscreen washer bottle. The transfer case breather is in the top of the case, and connects to the gearbox breather at a T piece on top of the gearbox. It then goes forward into the engine bay, and should loop up and over where the clutch cable enters the engine bay from the cab. You could extend all the breathers up into the snorkle, join them, and terminate them with a disposable in line fuel filter. Thats what they do one the comp vehicles over here.
