Forum:
Been out to day to have a look at Yellow '53' plate example with 22,500 miles on the clock. And with the helpful advice on here in relation to what to look for, I am now a proud owner of a 1 owner YRV turbo.
Many thanks to Daihatsu Dave for his advice.

Thanks Dave. Another question...............
Noticed that there isn't a parcel shelf covering the boot area. But did find a blind type shelf that was in a plastic bag. How does this attach? As it had velcro pieces one end and 1 loop piece on the other. I don't get to pick the car up until Saturday, and the bloke who sold me the car wasn't sure either.

Boot cover
Hi Jon,
my car has the hard shelf although its not very good.
The so called hard shelf is soft around the edges and drops off the brackets from time to time. Its like its made of layers of cardboard covered in felt!
To fit the Toneau cover according to the owners book, you attach the velcro's to the back of the seats. The sides should clip into a pair of slotted holders on each side of the boot panels. Think the loop is for pulling it towards you.
Cheers,
Dave.

Thanks again Dave.....But....
Hi dave,
Thanks for getting back to me. The so called soft parcel shelf seems to be a one in all and doesn't appear to roll back and forwards. In other words the best I can describe it, is it's not on a spring loaded mechanism. And is made from a thin black material. So I take it I'm missing something off the car then? I.e a hard parcel shelf?
Another question (I know
), the fuel flap. Is there a release handle to open this inside the car? Never noticed one when I went to look at it. And I noticed that there are 3 keys with the car I'm buying. What's the third for?

Thanks Again. Jon.

Hi Jon,
sorry should have explained a bit more.
The soft shelf is one of them spring wired things, you twist it in a figure 8 to store a bit like those car side window sun blinds, if you know what i mean.
The hard shelf is a Daihatsu extra, not cheap either although the construction seems to be! Think its about £120 to £150!!!!
Ther fuel flap release is situated just in front of the handbrake, jumped out many times to fill up and had to lean back in, annoying.
your 3 keys should be 2 grey and 1 black. Keep the black one in a safe place you need it to programme new keys should you ever lose or snap the others.
Did you see a remote fob to lock and unlock??
Regards,
Dave

Hi Dave, Yep the
Hi Dave,
Yep the parcel shelf did fold out in a figure of 8. But I don't remember it being spring loaded. Appeared to be an all in one.
Ahh.. Never noticed the release button near the handbrake. I take it you could use the petrol flap as an emergency air-brake
Yep there is also 1 keyfob. I take it the keys can be used to lock/unlock car as per the keyfob? In other words it takes care of the immobiliser?
Cheers Jon.

YRV keys
Yup there is a 'chip' inside the keys which controls the immobiliser.
Re the soft rear shelf, it resembles a pair of tights stretched over a big coathanger and is 110% useless!
The hard shelf is expensive and needs to be fitted carefully by the dealer to avoid 'fouling' the tailgate when its closed.
I could have made something up from 6mm plywood and have either carpet or leather cover it, and saved a fortune!Ask any questions, there are a few of us who have experienced many of the cars little foibles, such as it's appetite for front discs and exhausts!
Hi YRV130, How long do the
Hi YRV130,
How long do the front discs last then? Just had a set put on by the guy who sold me the car to pass it's M.O.T as well as 2 new front tyres. Cars done 22,500 miles with one owner.
Cheers,
Jon.

Discs
I got about 27k out of mine, so 22k isn't exceptional.
Be careful when buying the replacements though, they aren't the same size as the standard cars and the standard pads aren't compatible either!
27K doesn't sound too bad.
27K doesn't sound too bad. Noticed I am missing the clips in the boot to keep the parcel shelf up. So looks like I will need to put in something of my own

Well picked up the car
Well picked up the car today. And was quite impressed on the drive home. Give it a look over on the driveway. Just a couple problems I have spotted:
The soft parcel shelf doesn't appear to ledge itself anywhere >
. So I have had to leave it slopping down with the velcro attached to the back seats.
May also have a slow punture on the rear off-side tyre. Noticed it only had 9PSI of preasure!
So have now pumped this back to 30psi. Will need to check this tomorrow to see if it's gone back down again.

Apart from that it does what it says on the tin.
