The cam belt on my F75 93 model was last changed around 60000. I rely on my car for towing a horse trailer regularly so now having done 107,000miles think its due for another. My local garage won't touch the job of replacing it as they say it's very difficult job and involves taking everything apart to get to it!Any comments?. Also when I change gear the clutch makes a metal Clink sound. Any ideas? Caroline, a female driver who hasn't a clue!

Belt and Braces
Cam belts require replacement every 60,000 miles according to the manufacturers schedule, this means replacement at 120,000 miles. In reality though, I have never known a Fourtrak need a replacement as they are extremely durable and over engineered for reliability.
Replacing a cam belt is straightforward on a Fourtrak, it entails removal of the radiator, front panel, and accessing the front of the engine, many people do not even bother removing the front panel.
As for the supposed clutch problem, it sounds like the gearbox mainshaft nut requires tightening, being loose allows the main gear shaft to move, this is a common problem on Fourtrak's. On the rear of the transfer box is an aluminium cover shaped like a bra, inclined at 45 degrees, remove the six bolts holding this and remove it.
Two shafts will be exposed, the upper left one is the one you need to tighten, using a 30mm spanner, tighten as tight at you can get it, peen the edge of the nut into the groove in the shaft to lock it, this takes about 10 minutes to do, and costs no more than a replacement gasket for the cover.
