lift shackles

Forum:

Hello ,
Does anyone know the bolt size and length on the spring shackles of my fourtrak, as i am fitting my lifting shackles at the weekend and would like to know before i start in case of unforseen problems?

Shackle bolts

Hi, the mesurements for the bolts I use in my lift shackles are 130mm x 16mm for the chassis end and 110mm x 16mm for the spring end with nylock nuts and no washers, with the 10mm plate that I make the shackles from this allows the nuts to be tightened flush with the end of the bolt without overtightening the shackle plates onto the bushes.
When you come to fit your lifted shackles to the front springs I would recommend undoing the U bolts otherwise the panhard rod pulls the axle across as it is dropped away from the chassis and pulls the springs out of line with the chassis making the shackles difficult to fit.
If anybody is interested shackles are £75 per set of four (plus £12 postage if required)supplied in bare steel. I can supply them powder coated black for an extra £20 if required, I have rock sliders almost finished and will be working on a winch bar design shortly. I will add a pic to the gallery.
Hope this helps
Dave.

lift shackle bolts

Hello Dave.
Are all the holes in the leafspring bushes 16 mm then, because looking at mine the bolts in the rear shackles look like 12mm. And in the front, the top bolt looks like 10mm and bottom around 15, 16mm.
Is the shaft that goes through the bush 16mm, as i am worried that 16mm might be to big for most of them?
Would it be poss to set me straight.
Cheers.
Andy.

Bush holes

All the bush holes are the same Andy, its deceiving cos daihatsu used smaller threaded ends for some reason so it always looks like stuff wont fit but it will.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

Lift Shackle Bolts

Hi Andy, the bolts in the shackles are all the same diameter front and rear however when I replaced the springs on my old F70 I found that the spring eye bolts(the ones at the front of the springs that bolt the spring directly to the chassis)are different sizes on the front springs and rears,If you are changing the springs it is worth getting replacements for these in advance as the bushes on this end of the spring have a steel sleeve in them and invariably sieze onto the bolts so it is easier to cut them off and replace them.
cheers
Dave.
