Forum:
Hi all I have found that my 98 Fourtrak has developed a oil leak from the rear diff oil seal on the prop-shaft union, and I would like to know how hard is it to get the old seal and bearing out and fit new ones? I presume they are a “press fit†so will I be able to change them or is it best just to take it to the local garage? (I don’t have any special kit like “pullers†etc)
Cheers.

I've just done one on my daughters Rocky. Easy job. Remove the 4 bolts holding tailshaft to diff flange. Straighten the locking washer tabs from around the nut. Lock up everything you can, hand brake, front hubs and 4L and 1st. Use 32mm socket to undo nut. remove nut, lock washer, flat washer, and pinion flange. Prise the seal out with a screwdriver. Fit new seal, tapping it carefully into place with hammer and piece of flat timber around the edge. Work around the edge gradually driving the seal in till it sits flush with the housing. Refit flange, washer, lock washer, and nut after applying locktite. Retighten nut using bends on lock washer as a guide. Bend lock washer tabs back over nut. Refit tailshaft using Locktite on tailshaft bolts. All done in an hour or so.
