Forum:
Hi all
Not long ago I brought a Daihatsu Rocky (Jap import I think). according to the log book its got a 2000cc engine which I find hard to believe as engine sizes are always a few cc's below a whole figure (ie 1989cc) also its got a Daihatsu 16v EFI engine which unless it can be re-board should be a 1600cc engine. the gearbox is automatic and works fine doesn't apear to be an after market mod as it has the O/D off light on the dash and all the console matches the rest of the trim.
The problem is insuring it. its down as a fourtrak/rocky on the insurance records when i do an online quote with the reg mark. however the chasis number sugests otherwise as it starts f300s which should be a sportrak/rocky. right?
I have searched the net but cant find another one with an automatic gearbox, can anyone tell me more about it? does the auto gearbox rocky's/sportrak's have any pitfalls or quirks.
cheers
karl

What Is It
Have a look at the Feroza with the BMW engine. The first run resembled the Fourtrak and I have a feeling they may have been an Indonesian import.

Cheers for the fast reply.
Cheers for the fast reply.
did a google for "feroza BMW" and the first page was warfs so took a look. Bertone did play about with the the F300 and put a 2ltr BMW engine in it was 6 cylinder and mine is only 4.
I get the feeling my V5 is incorrect.
Here's A few more details from the V5 (log book) without giving too much away.

FANTASTIC.
I searched everywhere and completely missed that site.:?

another look at the VIN plate tells me its a F300S-BPHE
so its a Rocky SX or SX limited (will work that out later)
At least I now know its a standard Truck now and can try and get the V5 changed. Should help save some cash on the insurance.;)

So just to make tripple sure.....
The 1.6 HD-E engine has :-
"DAIHATSU 16 VALVE" cast into the rocker cover, "EFI" cast into the air/injection inlet and "HD" cast into the engine followed by some stamped numbers below the exhaust manifold and it can only be a 1.6ltr engine (I.E it's unlikely to be re-board hence 2000cc)

Auto Rocky
Glad to be of help, only found site by googling for 'diahatsu rocky+united states' just a shot, !!!!!! . So they did make a auto version as standard with EFI 1600cc motor, which was at least sold in the US.

None so blind as those who don't want to see....
I don't know how I missed it.
I think I was too focused on the fact its a japanese import.

With the F300 at the start
With the F300 at the start of the chassis number, it would be an early Feroza/Sportrak/USA Rocky. These had the 1600cc 4 cyl petrol motors. Its a narrow track (no wide wheel arch flares) and the front clips and doors closely resembled similar year F70/75/80/85 Oz Rocky/NZ & SA Rugger/ UK Fourtraks. It should have independant front suspension. The later models (wide tracks) were designated F310. Its interesting the 2 litre motor, as the F80/85 Australian Rockys were a 2 litre 4 cyl petrol motor variation of the 2.8 diesel, using the Toyota 3Y motor. AFAIK, the 2 litre 3Y doesnt bolt up to the F300 gearbox, so unless its a complete motor/gearbox/transfer case transplant, it would be interesting to find out which plate is correct, and how the second incorrect plate came to be on the vehicle.

Sorry to throw a potential
Sorry to throw a potential spaner in the works, but there was a 2ltr auto US Rocky (same body as UK Sporti) on e-bay a few months back. Could be coroberative evidence (hearsay at least) of 'real' car, unless you bought it?

Cheers Nev.K I did buy it
Cheers Nev.K I did buy it from Ebay, It may be the one your reffering to, infact take a look Item No 280117192697 it should still be there and it will save me getting the camera out.
I noticed today in the light it has "LIMITED" badge/trim on the body above the door handles on both sides.
would That support the theory of it being an SX Limited.
Cheers for the interest

That's not the one I was
That's not the one I was thinking of. That was blue. As a 'Sportrak' shape, with Rocky all over it, it is American, not Japanese market spec. Sorry that's not much help.
