Forum:
I off road my fourtrak alot, all over the winter i diddnt have any problems because the mud was quite watery. But now that it is a bit hotter the mud is thicker and seems to do something to the starter as i have had two starters, and they do not work every time of asking even though all of the terminals are covered in copper grease and it seems to get progressivly worse as time goes on.
Does anyone have an idea why, and how to stop it.

Starters
I'm not sure that copper grease is the answer, yes it is good at conduction and good at preventing siezure but I would go for a ggod dollop of some PH water proof grease to keep the muck out or the red rubber grease is good. Copperslip is toothin and when exposed tends to dissappear on open surfaces.

so you don't think the thick mud is getting into the starter somehow?
The watery stuff is more
The watery stuff is more likely to, leaving 'silt' behind each time. Very wet clay is about the best at this. It gets in EVERY where, and destroyes everytrhing. Good for killing aulternators too.
I have striped down starters / altinators befor now and gotten enough mud out to fill a coffee cup. Didn't think there'd be enough room in there.
A good clean up may be all it needs... maybe.
