Hello been a while,
I have a problem, my alternator on my sportrak is fried, I am wondering if I can use one off a fourtrak, or anything else daihatsu for that matter. Its only an off roader so not that important so long as it works. help would be much appreciated.

if your gonna us one from a
if your gonna us one from a fourtrak or any other daihatsu - why not use one from a sportrak?
they seem a pain to fit but are actually ok. you could fiddle and rip your hand to bits in the bay but i would remove the bumper and grille (about 15 mins work) and then drain and remove the radiator, and finally the fan.
dead easy then - just untension it, remove the belt and slide it out front ways.
easy.
PM me if you need Sportrak Help..
I've been offered a fourtrak
I've been offered a fourtrak thats for scrapping free, so was gonna see if it would work or even fit before i paid teh silly money people are asking for old sportrak ones!!! failing that I may just have my own reconditioned, so do you know if it will fit or work or not.
Alternator
I agree with Paul, try getting a Sprotrak from Ebay or the like. What fried it in the first place? No use putting a new one on withiout curing that or is it your experession for it being knackered?
Yes remove the grill and Radiator, fan, Bumper? I wouldn't bother and I have done the job so many times with the bumper in place in fact because I'm not tall i stand on it.
It is a fiddly job and probably almost impossible with the Rad and grill in Situ. While you have the Rad out back flush it and also if you can afford it replace all the air cleaner ironmongery with a K&N filter makes life easier in the future and frees up a hell of a lot of space. Slightly improves performance by allowing the engine to breeth easier, but don't expect to notice much.
As for a Fourtrak version fitting I wouldn't reaslly know, in theory they may be compatible, if anything the 4track may have a bigger output. The mounts may be the only problem but if it is gratis and the other gone then have it and try. If it works great, if not well half the work is done so you will have to get a Sporty version. I got a Alternator and starter off ebay last year as reserves for less than £20 the pair. Try the private breakers rather than the real trade breakers they are usually more sensible in their asking prices.
