Forum:
I am having a nightmare Sportrak 1.6ELXI
The Car will run for 30 secs then cut out completely. Then it won't restart.
So far:-
New Temperature sensor
New Distrubutor + rotar arm
New coil.
Diagnotics flash temperature sensor which has been replaced, now no know faults show.
I cannot afford to spend any more money. 300 quid so far on this fault.
Does anyone have any ideas or does anyone fancy taking it off me.
Its a 96 Midnight. in ok condition. carpets are gone in the back. seats are all o.k have been using it for messy stuff rather than the missus new car
Had a service 6 months ago + cam belt 4 good tyres all ok accept this fault, some history. 85k on the clock.
Please help me.
And my VFR800 needs new tyres hence the panic.

well hey if you cant sort it
well hey if you cant sort it do you want to sell??? i need another project!! where are you/how much etc (pm me if you want)
mine did this last week - it would run for about 10 seconds then the revs would die off and it wouldnt restart. you know what it was?
not enough petrol in the tank.
question - does it die instantly when you put your foot on the throttle??
i reckon youve got a fuel snag there. you are getting some fuel so i dont think it will be the injectors/efi side of things.
id replace the fuel pump and put a tenners worth in the tank.

PM me if you need Sportrak Help..

Looks like it was one of the relays.
Changed both the injector and main relay, also have a spare fuel pump relay ready to go in.
Fenland Breakers.. Steven very helpful guy.
Send me the relays for gratis. Top bloke.
Dammit! Dammit! Sorry... I
Dammit! Dammit! Sorry... I totally forgot to mention the fact that I had a relay go as well about 3 years back. Totally baffling at the time, and after £80 for a 2 mile recovery I just found a scrapped Sporty in Car Exchange nr. Nantwich and basically stripped it until I hit on what was causing it. I have noticed that under normal running they get quite hot, so something must break down after a while
Since then I've kept a couple of spares in the unused terminals in the box.
Anyhow, glad It's sussed.

possible?
Have you checked to make sure the fuel is flowing into the engine right it could be as simple as a blocked line or dodgy filter?
or is this a silly comment?

hi pbloke
how long do you have to wait before the vch will start?
is there a smeell of fuel after the vch has stopped?
please check the workings of the fuel pump can you hear the pump start and pressure of the injection system and pressure sensor and the main relay can you hear a relay operating sound or feel it vibrating (caution may get hot)is the injector relay working? is it possible that the cam belt has skipped a tooth?
there are a hell of a lot of things to check on this system in fact over 100 pages of checks and diagnosis so the more info you can pass to us the better and my manual covers the f300 el efi fitted to uk and us vchs
good luck H
Cut out trouble
The fault is intermitten but increasing in freqency.
It will only do it when cold, you can still hear the fuel pump priming.
The car if started will just completely stall when idling. and it will do it within the first 30 seconds of running, then it will not start.
The fault has changed slightly in nature it used to stall when running then, you may be able to start it, but it would stiffle if you tried to go anywhere.
But now its seems to happen alot quicker then nothing.
But you could keep it alive by giving it loads of wellie, and not letting the revs drop at all.
No smell of petrol.
fuel
I had the same problem with an old Dacia Duster 4x4 many may years ago the car would run for about 30 seconds stop I would need to leave it for a good while then it would start for another 30 seconds and stop, the AA told me it was the distributer so I bought a new one but it made no difference, eventually a friend took the petrol tank off and emptied it and cleared out my fuel lines and their was wood shavings in my tank! I had bought a dodgy tank of fuel, I did live in Essex at the time sooo its understandable! I would check that all out, my friend tested it by putting a foot pump on the fuel line and pumping until he could here the bubbles in the tank the car ran fine for about 45 minutes until it picked up all the crap from the tank again!
its only a suggestion but hey who knows.
