Forum:
Hi All,
Just returned from off roading in the Fourtrack, problem is the footbrake peddle has almost no brake unless I pump the peddle at least four times at this point I have brakes, but there is also a ratcheting type noise which seems to be coming from the transfer box. I have checked for leeks etc but can find nothing, anyone have any ideas what it can be.
Rgds

Sounds like you've taken the
Sounds like you've taken the last of the life out of your rear break shoes, and one or both have pased the end of the self adjustment. This will caose it to go back to maximum adjustment, which means you have to pump the shoes out each time you use them. This problem would be acompanied by a ratcheting sound, so don't worry about the transfur until you seolv this problem. It is remarkably difficalt to tell where a sound is comming from under the car when inside it.
Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
Cleaned the rear brakes,
Cleaned the rear brakes, manually adjusted them and I now have a better peddle feel but when pumped the ratcheting noise is definetly coming from that transbox, and it's definatly related to the brakes, I have many years experiance on cars but this has no logic to it, I'll let you know when I suss it
