Try a search on here for 'matrix' or 'heater'and it should throw up all the info you need. They are a perennial problem with the Sportrak.

A couple of hours.
Search this site using the 'search' option. I have posted several times on this topic and locqation to buy a replacement matrix -- mail order or collect. Do not buy from Daihatsu and do not try repairing the matrix.
Dashboard ... yes it needs to be unbolted and pulled forward to gain access the heater box inside which is the matrix. Matrix pulls sideways towards drivers door from the heater box ... do not remove the heater box.
NB .. Remove both front seats before starting. There are hidden screws behind the dials [leveling dial] and in the air vents. The most difficult is the bolt under the dash board. Also take car not bending the heater controls when pulling the dash forwards.
thanks
