petrol gauge sender unit - help me!

Forum:

hi all, you know who i am by now Biggrin

i put this petrol tank back on yesterday and the gauge isnt registering anything - even though theres about two gallon in the tank.

if was working before i pulled the tank off. the only dealings with the tank i had was disconnecting the sender unit from the main rear wiring.

other than cleaning up the terminals etc and checking the wiring can anyone suggest a fix? does it have its own relay or fuse?

i dont want to have to go into the tank but i fear it may be trout as the tank was moved around a lot when pulling out and putting back.

any ideas?

paul

hi paul does the water temp

hi paul

does the water temp gauge work
if yes

best guess wire on sender unit broken either way

remove tank and check sender unit held in by five screws, remove sender and check that resistance varies when float is moved from upper to lower position. if thats ok ground out the connector twith the engine switch off then on to make the gauge move the gauge circuit diagram doesnt show a fuse but that doesnt mean there isnt one but as it was working before you took it out i would guess that its at the tank end i am afraid

yeah water temp is working,

yeah water temp is working, ill have a good look at the wiring today as now ive just put the blooyd tank back on i dont want to have to remove it every ten minutes.

the screws holding the sensor onto the tank are rusted beyond repair. i HOPE its just the wiring, ill solder some fresh on and give it a good clean with the dremel.

cheers as always

paul
