Forum:
Hi, I have just registered on this forum. Found it via a google search on YRV 130.
I have been tempted to p/x my current car Punto Active Sport for a Yellow YRV 130.
Unsure why at the moment, maybe because it is yellow or maybe because it looks good.
It is a 53 reg, 20k on clock and looks in great nick. Apart from slight colour difference in bonnet vent!
Never owned a turbo before so I looking for advice on what to look for and make sure works.
My dad has a 01 YRV Premium and it has been ultra reliable and has just ticked over the 130k mark. Only problem so far has been faulty lamda sensor and recently the radiator holed.
Thanks and look forward to your replies.

YRV TURBO
Hi,
how can you hesitate!!!
Turbo's are great fun!
Think member Dave Dixon had his Yellow scoop repainted under warranty, your a little late for that on a 03.
Dont think it would cost a great deal to get sorted at a local body shop?
A few things i would look for, i'm sure other members especialy those who have had them a while can tell you more.
Exhausts can snap where the two tail pipes join the single main pipe. You can easily see if the weld is corroded by looking underneath from the rear.
Daihatsu Uk are aware they snap and should change even out of the 3 yr warranty.
Rear anti roll bar brackets can snap, but Daihatsu UK will fit stronger replacements again out of warranty if you lean on them a bit - avoiding another recall!!
Got to have had plenty of oil changes 5w-30 or 0w-30 synthetic, at least every 6 months or 6,000 miles.
Brake discs are expensive and can chew up early, especialy if it did not have its 2 yr service which includes a brake strip and fluid change.
Pop the air filter out, price vary from £35 upwards for a new one.
If you could get a look at a spark plug, it could give you an idea on how its been driven and the mileage.
They are platinum with two electrodes (NGK-BKR6EKPA)and should last 60,000 miles or alot less if thrashed!!
The engine will make a valve tapping noise below 2100 revs, a common thing thats worried us all at some time.
Daihatsu again aware, its to do with the variable valve timing.
Air will blow through the oil filler cap if removed with engine running, its not due to a worn engine.
All i can think of for now.
Hope you find a good one and join us here soon.
All the best,
Dave.

Since typing the post, I have looked over the car and gone for a test drive. It really is something!
The only thing I didnt like is the wait when I kicked down. Found it better if I just eased the accelerator when I didnt need to fly past a slower vehicle.
I never bothered with the manaul controls as I have never driven an automatic before I had to keep my concentration
Unfortunatly I couldn't get a good price for my punto, so the deal is off. They wanted £6995 which seems a little on the expensive side after looking in autotrader, parkers, etc...
I will be looking around for another one. I have seen a yellow one in a garage near preston for £4995 with less miles than the one I took for a drive. I may take a drive up next weekend and see if it looks as good as the pics.
Thanks

Turbo
Hi.
Yes mine is the best colour, yellow!
Motor Show car with leather. Only one I know of.
Had my scoop and rear spoiler done under warranty, but it still doesn't look spot on to me.
Being a different material doesn't help.
Mine has 30000 on clock and was serviced today.
Only needed oil and filter, as brakes done previously and Blitz Induction Kit fitted saving the cost of air filters. Sounds good too.
Spark plugs were checked and put back in after 12000 miles so far.
Mine doesn't lag very often and if you keep the revs up in manual gears it never does.
Mine is 2 and a half years old and exhaust is 'scabby' but that will be replaced before warranty expires!
Bushes on mine are original and no problem so far.
I have wide wheels on and grip is very good.
Prices seem to have climbed again recently.
Perhaps the secret is out; they are fun with a capital F and very rare.
Where are are based?
I am moving to north of Banbury on tuesday.
yrv 130 turbo in sunflower yellow
hi
i also have a yrv 130 turbo one of the last 2005 models only done 13000 miles again in sunflower yellow it looks great and if you drive in manual mode if flies.
Todays date is 5/4/07 and looking on auto traders web site there is a yellow turbo with 9000 miles going at £4995 and a couple more, have to pay more at a daihatsu dealer as these will be getting quite rare.
Off to see it tomorrow
I am going to see the yellow one in autotrader tomorrow. I have been warned about the silver one for £6995 but will also go for a look as it is close by
Since I typed my last message the garage I originally went to has offered be £4500 for my car so if the cheaper yellow one isnt good I will go back and try and get a better deal.
Many thanks
