Thinking of turning my Sporty into a GM/Daihatsu hybrid.

Forum:

Hi i have a 1991 Daihatsu Sportrak, and im considering doing a "little" modification.
I drive around in a 1999 Vauxhall Vectra Gsi which has had an engine conversion, to go from a 2.5 litre V6 to a 3.0 litre V6. Which has roughly 250bhp at the moment.
Thing i was considering doing was, trying to see if i could fit the Vectra 2.5 V6 engine, with a Frontera gearbox, and axles etc into the Sportrak.

I know id probably have to rip out all the running gear, and use Frontera stuff "adapted" to fit. And id either need the Loom out of an Omega or Vectra, or convert t to throttle bodies!! The engine kicks out close to 200bhp, so in a Sportrak would be an animal. Esp as it would have stupid amounts of torque, ideal for off roading.

But just wondered if anyone had done anything similar.

Well, I can't help you with

Well, I can't help you with that mod, but I sure as hell wanna hear how it works out Diablo

Reading this makes me wish I

Reading this makes me wish I had advance knowledge in car mechanics... I was pleased when I did the k&n air filter on my sportrak. Instead I suffer through University.

I would love to drop a chevy 5.7 V8 in my sportrak and tune it... seen it done in suzuki sj413s.

Only problem with naging in big engine is transferring the power through to the road via the wheels... need to keep tranction and not over power the jeep or it won't stick and be everywhere.

Good luck with the experiment... take photos, and once done do a 0-60 run in it and if possible video it!

Don't know about that

Don't know about that particularly. But a 3.5 Rover V8 into a 4trak has been done on more than one occasion. One guy has posted about it on this forum.
One of the builds I have first hand expiriance of was done by cutting an F75 bell housing, and a Rang Rover one down, and then welding the to halves together (both ally) to make a new housing which married the V8 to the Daihat's running gear. The Running gear proved quite man enough to take the power being deliverd.
The second used the Rang Rover auto gearbox. This used cut shut (and balanced) Daihatsu / Rangi hybread props to deliver power to the existing running gear.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

Look out for Andy's (Besty)

Look out for Andy's (Besty) former rig on outerlimits4x4 forums or warfs website. 3.8 litre V6 conversion, solid axle swap, Hi Lux running gear huge wheels and tyres and a big lift. Awesome machine, pretty famous down under.
Don't think he'll mind me posting this pic.

Stone.

*drools* Gimme Anyone able

Anyone able to recommend some beefier tyres to put on my stock Sporty 94 EXi? The stock tyres seem... inadequate.
