A few checks........
They do not run hot. The temperature gauge should be half way to max.
I assume the engine looses no coolant ... this means NO loss.
Fan working?
Flush the radiator.
Reverse flush the engine block.
Check the radiator cap is pressurising the coolant.
Check the water pump and its belt.
Check the thermostat.
Panic.
fan
if it has viscus fan make shure its locking up properly viscus fans are the biggest cause of overheating if it dose not lock up when engine hot get a new one or lock it up solid or better still chuck it away and get themo controled electric fan you also save fuel and noise

Flushing
Now then. Ive been experiencing the same problems with my sportrak, mines a 1997 1.6xi. It runs fine on flat roads but when I go up hills it boils EVERY bloody time! only seems to be when its pulling hard it does it with a trailer on too.is that the same with yours?
Ive put new thermostat and rad cap on but still no different. Does this reverse flush idea work could it be blocked somewhere?
