Forum:
I have a K reg. Spotrack Limited which I have owned for about 3 months and I am very pleased with it.
What I would like to know is, is there any speed restriction on how fast you can drive in 4 wheel drive (4H) on road. As I have done several runs over the M62 lately and it was wet and I would have liked the added stability of 4 wheel drive, but wasn't sure what speed you can do in 4H so I did not risk it, as there is a sticker on the drivers door which says 4H is for Off Road.

Sportrak 4 Wheel Drive
4 Wheel Drive should only be used off-road.
The UK Sportrak's never came with a Limited Slip Diff.
If you drive on a hard tarmac road in 4wd, it causes "wind-up" in the transmission system, which can cause it to go BANG.
When you drive off-road, the front wheels will tend to slip, which releases the windup.
Thanks, I thought that might
Thanks, I thought that might be the case as I was in a landy which went bang for just that reason some years ago. D.D.

Yep on tarmac or grippy
Yep on tarmac or grippy surfaces use 2wd only.
Snow or icy roads can be tackled in 4wd but change back to 2H
when you reach clear sections.
Your old Landy won't have gone bang through trans wind up as they are permanent 4wd with centre diff.
FYI some European spec Sportys were full time 4wd with centre diff but not many iirc.
Big shame is that we can't get air lockers for ours. BOO!
Stone.
series 3 landrovers and
series 3 landrovers and earlier are part time 4wd same as the fourtrak, its the 90 and 110 that are full time 4wd (and coil sprung)
