Could be a blown fuse or a seized gearbox. Try manually helping the wiper when switched on and listen for signs of life from the motor.
Mine was seizing up and struggling but I removed it from the door got some lube down the wiper arm shaft and got it free with the help of a vice.
Stone.
more info
hi i have discovered that when the switch is on for the rear wiper the motor behind the back door panel gets very hot and when the water jet is pressed the water leaks into the door panel and there is a lot of steam.
Would you say that the rear wiper motor needs replacing?
No, I'd say the gearing is
No, I'd say the gearing is seized. Strip, clean and lub, and save the expense of a motor.

wiper
so would the earth issue cause the wiper motor to heat up?
Windings shorting.
If the wiper motor is heating up then the internal copper winding of the motor is either leaking [broken/shorting] to earth or the winding is unable to revolve [jammed due to rust]. A faulty wire from the wiper's motor to earth is not the problem. The most likely cause is a broken copper wire in the internal copper winding of the wiper's motor.
Get the wiper motor off the car and try connecting it, testing it, directly to a 12v supply/battery.
re earth problem ,
glad it was the earth rarther than the starter, glad to help, cheers
