Forum:
hello, i'm wanting to lift my 94 fourtrak. i've been advised to buy 2" lift coils for the rear and tighten the torsion bar at the front.
i know someone who's just done this, the front torsion is fully extended and still 1/2" shorter than the rear. the front top wishbones are now bottomed out on the bump stops and the the driveshafts run at quite a angle.
does anyone know if any of the two will cause driving problems or any damage. i also need to know if they will be a saftey risk involved, still carting the family about.
thanks in advance.

All i can say is i wound up
All i can say is i wound up my torsion bars to give 1 inch lift and fit adjustable air shockers witch overall gives me 2 inch, removed anti roll bar, cmac tera 31x10.5x15 tyres, its been like this for two years now no problems,in fact without the roll bar it works more like indi sus should be it dosent feel like the wheels are going to come through the bonet when you hit a pot hole it drives different but better and off road its much better
may be trying to get 2 inch with the torsion bars is a bridge two far?
+ I shaved 3/4 of a inch of the bumpstops
getting rid of standard shocker is a must

Personaly I would sugest a
Personaly I would sugest a body lift. Leave all the heavy stuff (engine, gearbox, chassis, drive train) where it is, and lift the body onto 2" 'stilts' over the chassis. As well as not moving you centre of gravity up as much (an advantage both on and off road), but also does not involve moving the transmition from the angle some smart little Japaneas guy spent monthes perfecting. You will still give yourself more room in the wheel arch for bigger tyres, alowing you to lift the diffs.
That said, unless you want to go bigger than 31/10.50/15, or you just want 'the look' I wouldn't lift it at all. This size tyre will fit almost as the car is. All I had to do to get them onto mine was wind the tortion bars up slightly, to bring the front level with the back (instead of the normal nose down stance of the Indi), and bend the front mud flaps back a bit, so they didn't fowl on the tyre at lock. I also removed the stearing stops by the way (OK if you don't over do the loud peddel at lock). And the tyres never foweled on the body as long as I had it, on road or off.
Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
no offence nev but the smart
no offence nev but the smart jap gezer set the sus for on road use mainly as you said there nose down thats why you need to wind the torsion bars up 1 inch and nobody can defend there standard shockers
all the best

i've already got
i've already got 31x10.50x15's on. at first all i needed to do was take an inch off the corner units from the bumper, and remove the mud flaps. the rear is ok. the problem is when i'm on the road and hit a dip i can feel the tyres catching, so i'm guessing i'd have problems of road.
i will buy new pro comp shocks with 2" travel but the rest you advised is well above my head.
i understand that all i have to do is buy coil's with an extra 2" for the rear, but it's the complecations a the front i'm lost with. if i were to tighten the torsion bar to it's full extent, what else would you advise i do in order to make everything run has it should.
also can you explain if there will be any risk's involved
just to go back a bit, does the fourtrak pass a mot without the roll bar? if in fitted adjusable shocks alround would i need the coils?

where you get the springs from?
i was wondering where you are getting the coil springs from? i have a 97 fourtrak, a 91 fourtrak and a 82 taft! can get leaf springs and shackles for the 91 and 82 but could never find coils for the independant!
