Hiya,
during a recent discussion on (Fourtrak-)Offroaders with a friend of mine who just returned from Australia he pointed out to me that he saw a Daihatsu Fourtrak with a higher and wider Hardtop which looked like it housed an additional compartment over the drivers head and was alltogether higher and wider than the original. As he swore it was on a Fourtrak I thought I try to make some enquiries about that.So does anybody know of a differently shaped hardtop and if so where do they come from???
??? Left me a bit puzzled anyway...

Oz hardtop
Sounds like one for Bundyrumandcoke, our man down under.

Nope, havent heard of one of these, at least not with a FRP roof. However, I vaguely recall seeing a pic on the web of a high (all steel) roofed LWB from Indonesia, or Malaysia, or somewhere like that. Cant give you any more info than that.
Cheers

Hardtops
Different hardtops were available in some markets, originally all leaf sprung, and early independents were all exported from Japan as pick ups.
Supplying dealers fitted the hardtops and interiors to customer specifications and requirements, and tailored to different markets.
Some hardtops were manufactured in the country supplied with the base vehicles, many hardtops for European markets were manufactured in the UK, and Belgium if memory serves me well.
Independent manufacturers supplied custom hardtops in certain markets, some were recreational bases as opposed to working type tops. My suspicions are that these tops were for camper type vehicles in Australia as many people use 4X4 campers in this country. These were designed to carry roof top tents with additional camping equipment and supplies carried inside the vehicle so as not to attract the wildlife.
