Introducing Skythra -- Daihatsu Charade g203 owner

Forum:

Hi, I just wanted to get known a little. Ill give a brief overview of myself to try and get the ball rolling:

me
I love cars and computers. Im 21. I live in Australia.

My charade is special to me, but rather unimpressive at the moment:

1.5L with some silly/cheap mods, all home done...

Airbox (CAI): Cut it up a fair bit, installed a high flow panel filter, and cut the intake side of the box to nearly 2x its regular side. I then siliconed on a 3" hose which runs in an arc to the front bottom left side of my bumper, which has a 3" hole with a grill. Theory: when im driving at speed, the intake scoops up air into the tube, which forces it through the panel filter, and into the engine! Well it sounds great, but in practice if anything it probably never reaches positive pressure, however there might be "less" vaccumme, which means overall slightly more air. Not to mention, the factory intake for the chrade airbox was roughly 1"x1.5" and widening that to 3" round is a big difference alone.

Air Tempreature sensor mod: I have an inline resistor which runs between the sensor and the sensor harness. this resistor which was developed with an engineer (not the diode, but the calculations for how much resistance) friend of mine Smile What this does is simple: it thinks the air is roughly 10 degrees lower then real air temp. because of the MAP sensor, it will then input MORE fuel into the mix. Sure, slightly less economical, but it sings prettier at high revs. In other words, more top end power, less high rev pinging, and removeable in seconds. So really i put it in when im going for a drive around some mountains Smile

Future modifications:
Okay this is a big sectoin And ill explain it slowly because its the exciting bit Biggrin Im doing an engine swap. Its a 3sgte in place of the regular 1.5 daihatsu motor.

why?
I actually had an accident a while ago where i smashed up the front end of the car. I fixed it all up but i broke a couple of seals, one of them is the rear main seal. I was originally going to rebuild a daihatsu motor from a wrecker and engine swap, because doing the rear main is an engine out job. But i found a 3sgte rebuilt (by my housemate) for $1000. (australian dollars). So i figured, screw spending nearly that much on a new engine and rebuilding it, ill use this!

How?
Actually im not 100% sure yet. Im still measuring up mounting points, but ill use the stock mounts for the right hand side of the motor, and custom weld some for the right hand side. the gearbox is a FWD camry 3sg gearbox. its a tight fit afaik, from my measurements alone its going to require some... effort. Ive got someone who will do my custom drive shafts, and im currently fitting some daihatsu applause rear brake hubs so i can install all round brake rotors.

opinion
I love the concept of a perfect sleeper. I can have this with a black front mount intercooler, so it will be completely invisible. Outside the car, its a daihatsu charade. The exhaust will be stock, i dont need the extra power from some overbearing or loud exhaust, something equilivent to the stock with resinators and all will suffice. Ill have a second dump pipe with side pipe welded up for track day, but otherwise, while driving, the car will be quiet. the only thing will be the spooling noise from the turbo. Its going to be a stock turbo which was pretty quiet anyhow, so its not super loud, but its not going to sound likea 3cyl turbo 1L charade or a suzuki Blum 3 It should sound much like the golf gtti or something along those lines. Smile

Comments are welcome. If you are wondering why or have reasons not to, ill listen, ill try not to be angry Blum 3 its my baby project and already i feel it coming along. Ive bought a bike so i can keep getting to work and uni till she's done.

I think ill probably have to buy a second car anyway, its a long term project looking to take up to 6 months from when i start. Of course i can only work on it on weekends, but thats still probably 15 hours a week, which can get a long way.

Im going to keep trolling the forums/internets for other people with similar ideas to see what challenges they had to overcome when doing similar.
