Forum:
hi all i own a 1989 2L petrol fourtrak and having problems getting a replacement distributor have tried a 3y and was informed by the mechanic it didn't fit(will check again) of a toyota ( engines are supposed to be the same or so i have read) so if anyone has or knows where i can get a replacement it will get my trak back on the road. engine identification from the bulkhead plate is f85rv-mb-3y. and can anyone tell me where i can locate the chassie plate to id the engine
UPDATE
my trak has a condensor type distributor, and the one i had sent was a electronic ignition type ,thats why the mechanic said it didnt fit lol and will check for the chassis plate tonite.

Your mechanic doesnt know
Your mechanic doesnt know what he is talking about. It IS a 3Y engine, as shown in the engine number on the plate. Be careful though, there are different versions of the 3Y, more specifically, a carby and an injected version. Get the one that suits yours.
As for the chassis number, look at the front end of the RHS chassis rail, under the mudguard (wing) it is stamped along there, and will start with F85xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

why new distributor ??
Hi, why did you need a new one
I saw some comments about back firing and bad running etc, not sure if it was you. BUT I had similar issues, just checked my vac advance tube - there appears to be a one way valve/filter in-line, i think it was the wrong way around. Anyway, reversed it and things seem a lot better now.
