hi everybody
i did the diagnostic check like mini told me to do and the engine light blinked every 4.5 seconds, which mean't my sensors etc are okay. i did the pug gaps. i cleaned each sensor as well. only the one by the distributor i can't take of very awkward. also is the last straw to take the throttle body of and give it a good clean. i also sprayed some carb cleaner into the intake manifold hasn't made any difference. any more advice anyone.

idle problems
If the diagnostics showed nothing then start looking at the other areas. I am not sure how much you have done to date but the coils can fail and cuse problems. More often the Plug leads fail through age and the temperature changes. These will both lead to a rough idle and a lack of power.
I had assumed that your car was the EFI model but reading the reply am not so sure. If it is a carb model them you should look at this as well. Check that the choke is opening and that the throttle butterfly spindle isn't warn. Run some Redex through it to ungum the jets.
The ditributor cap and rota arm should also be inspected as tracking within this area can cause misfires . It is really an ellimination exercise, cheapest first. Plug leads are £10.99 on ebay and are fine.
Check alsoo the deposits on the plugs, Oily black means oil is being burnt in that cylinder, white means the mixture is too lean or the timing retarded. Black the opposite.
GOODLUCK
