My 1990 daihatsu fourtrak is leaving a patch of oil on the drive, especially after a bit of a run, it seems to be coming from around the head gasket, though not entirely sure as it is hard to see in behind there. Any ideas?

oily mess
is it definitely around the head or is it the rocker cover, wipe it all off and run it for a bit then look again, check oil and water levels constantly. If you cant reach use a power washer to squirt it off then when its had a run try and look again with a torch, best guess is yes the head gasket is gone, get a proffesional to look and dont leave it to long, you dont want water getting in to the pistons
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

oily mess!!
Thankyou for your reply, I think you have confirmed what I thought that it must be a leak from the head gasket as it is not the rocker cover, I could see all round that with a torch and mirror and that all looks clean, I didn't know if there was any where else it might come from.
Heady
With the engine cold, spray with degreaser, work this in with a brush and leave; wash off with a hosepipe. Remove all the underbody protection from the front of the vehicle, you actually get a better view from underneath, start the engine and see if you can see the oil leaking, from the top using a mirror, look at the back of the head to see if it is the head gasket. Turbo models often leak oil from the turbocharger over a period of time, this blows around the engine.
Should it be the head gasket, change it immediately as it will cause serious engine problems if left, other things to check are the rocker cover is correctly tightened, and not over tightened as this leaks and it gives the impression of it being the head gasket.
Remove the oil filler cap and check for a mayonnaise, this indicates the head gasket has gone, and as an afterthought check the diesel injectors are not leaking, as diesel blows around the back of the engine and gives similar results.
