Sporty tranfer box

Forum:

I am new to off roading and have decided to modify my newly aquired 1993 sportrak, i have some huge 255 75 r15 on which do fit...just (nuts to all those that say they wudnt). This means that the transfer box now runs at a different ratio which is too fast for off roading especially hill decents. Mines on its way out and i was wondering if there are any quick swaps i can do to get a better gear ratio or if i just have to stick it with the origonal

cheers for and help
Paul

Hi Paul Gears are available

Hi Paul

Gears are available from Toyota Hi-lux models, most of these fit sporties, you will need to recalculate the rolling radius of your new tyres to adjust your gear ratios accordingly.

Aftermarket suppliers still supply alternative gear ratios for Hi-lux's, if you want new, they will do the calculations for you, don't forget to recalibrate your speedo, or change your speedo drive gear for an appropriate ratio to prevent the dreaded tax imposed by the numerous speed cameras.
