Forum:
I thought Id posted this last night but cant find it anywhere - Ill try again. I have a 1997 Bertone Freeclimber II which is basically a Sportrak/Feroza chassis with( amongst other things) a BMW 316i engine. The fuelguage is Daihatsu and has a problem - when full it reads empty - as fuel is used, the guage gradually rises to 1/3 full and then as more fuel is used drops back down to empty again. Any ideas what this might be?

In the tank
Faulty sender unit.
i had this problem.
i had this problem. mistakenly i swapped the wires over, now it does nothing.
unfortunately you will have to remove the bashguard and tank, the sender unit is located on top of the tank.
it is held in with 5 screws which are almost impossible to remove with any kind of serviceablility.
if you can get a petrol tank for cheap, just pull out and replace the whole unit. it will save an awful lof of money and time.
otherwise you will have to remove the sender unit and replace it, and then replace the panel which holds it on and try and retain a seal inside the petrol tank. when you replace the panel on the top of the tank use some kind of liquid gasket to work it out.
i myself have to do this soon but i cant find the motivation to have to remove the whole tank(again) and pull it all to bits. i think im going to just replace the damn tank.
anyone got a spare tank kicking about?
