A bit of advice needed please! My 98 Independent (my first Daihatsu and only just got it, so have lots to find out about!) is making quite a lot of knocking / clonking noises from the rear suspension on any thing other than a perfect Road surface, I suspect rear shocks and / or suspension bushes, any advice would be welcome! and is fitting new shocks and bushes a easy job, or do I need any special kit? just want to get the thing riding better. Planning a trip to Milners for new filters etc, so need to know what else to get.

Sounds like you have identified the suspect areas. Also inspect the leaves of the spring suspension. Jack it off the ground and have a good look .. use a lever/crow bar to lever the joints and check for movement.
Shocks .... no real problem in replacing. If you need to renew do a [top bar] search on this site for none-electric shock replacements.
