Forum:
Hello,
I was wondering just how much fuel I've got left when the last block on the fuel gauge starts flashing.... (Materia btw)
So far I've filled up when it starts flashing... I've not let it go any lower.
so I guess my question is - is there another 'Low Fuel' warning, like a red light after the flashing last block?
(I dont want to run out of petrol trying to find out!!!
)
Thanks
J

Iv'e no idea but you could
Iv'e no idea but you could get an approximate by trying this. Soon as the gauge block flashes, head to the petrol station (assuming its fairly nearby).
Fill it up to the neck (carefully) and note what amount it says on the pump.
Deduct that amount from what it says is the tank capacity in your owners book. Maybe allow a litre for whats in the filler pipe if you are able to fill almost to the top.
May be a good idea to know the tank capacity before you start to fill then you can ease off several litres short of this to avoid showering the forecourt and you in the process

You should find that there is
You should find that there is still 10 litres remaining even when the last segment starts flashing.
A friend has a Perodua Myvi (same as new Sirion) and we got in about 30 litres when gauge just started to flash last segment. Tank is 40 liters which most Daihatsu cars seem to be, Not sure on Materia though.
To be sure
The best way to be sure is put a gallon of fuel in a tank in your boot. Drive until the light flashes. As soon as it does, reset the trip. Continue driving until you run out of fuel. Observe trip reading
I did this in my 2006 Sirion which also has the flashing LCD display and I got 86 miles extra until I ran out and average 45.62 mpg over 10 tank fills.
It the only accurate way of knowing accurately as every car is slightly different. Great fun not knowing when it will actually stop and surprised me how far it went!
