Sportrak transmission oil

Forum:

As part of what I hope to be as full a service as I can give my Sportrak I intend to change the gearbox, transfer box and differential oils.

In an effort not to make a stupid mistake I thought it best to ask as I am unsure exactly what to use.

The vehicle spec on this website says

SAE 80W for the gearbox
SAE 80W/90 for the diffs

So I have a couple of questions: are these the same oil? Does the transfer box use the same as the gearbox?

Would the oil offered on Milner be suitable for everything? http://www.milneroffroad.com/daihatsu/sportrakferoza/f300-1-6petrol-89-81999/f300-transmission/f300-gear-oil-hyp-sae90-1-litre

The rest of the service will include:

Engine oil change
Fuel, oil and air filter change
Cooling system clean, bars treatment and antifreeze.
Wipers
Spark plugs
Thermostat

All the belts were done last october.

If there's anything I should add to that list I would appreciate your input.

Thank you in advance for your help

You can use anything from

You can use anything from 75-90 in the gearbox, its just a little fuel economy from using 90 to 80 as 80 is slightly thinner.

Stick with 90 for the diffs as these work hard and can get hot under heavy off roading or towing, it offers more protection, and go for a GL5 specification oil as this is better than GL4 specification oils and offers more protection and a longer working life.

Gearbox and transfer box oils are the same.

Grease and grease gun for the propshaft and steering joints, a good Lithium grease will suffice, force new grease in until the old comes out, when the old is out and the new grease comes out its changed.

Where there is a single

Where there is a single number such as EP90 this means its a monograde or single grade oil; where its two numbers such as EP80/90 it is a multigrade oil and the oil in the link is fine as it acts like the thinner 80 grade oil when cold, but gives the protection of a 90 grade oil when warm.

Basically its a good option and fine for your vehicle.

I would suggest going to the Opie Oils website as they currently have a sale on and do oils very cheaply for top brands, and as you want a quantity it may be a cheaper option, even if you buy more then you need.

Thanks again, I really

Thanks again, I really appreciate the help. Great advice on using Opie Oils, they seem to supply all of the other service items for the Sportrak too and are cheaper whilst on sale.
