Sirion 2007 1.0SE oil

Forum:

Hi,
Just going to carry out 36000m service.
Got some car lube 5-30 semi synthetic
I have read the excellent article on oil spec
on this site, but still need some reassurance
is this ok for 9000m at 60-70 mph cruising 60 mile return commute and 30 mile @40mph local driving
500-600miles a week
I am running on gas conversion with flashlube
Grateful for any advice

Providing 5w30 is ok for your engine and the Carlube (made by Tetrosyl, Bury) is of a decent spec like ACEA cf/sm / API A3/B3 then I would say yes. BUT, I wouldn't leave oil in for 9k miles, especially not a semi synthetic. I do mine every 3k miles and use 5w30 in my turbo. I used GTX magnatec FULLY synthetic last time as it was only £14 or something. The car has not done a 1000 miles since the change and I'm going to do it again over Easter as this was the first Fully Synthetic oil change it's had. I would use Fully Synthetic every time, as semi synthetics are quite often mostly mineral oil anyway. Even Tesco do a 5w30 and a 5w40 FULLY synthetic for £20, and that is made by Tetrosyl, same as what you have got. Mobil 1 is good, but expensive and I cannot warrant spending that kind of money every 3k!

Oil is a personal thing with most owners.............

All the shiny labels and marketing bull that Halfrauds have will cost you £'s

If you're leaving it in for 9k MAYBE a more expensive oil would be best.......

Go to ASDA, they sell 5w30 Castrol EDGE Fully Synthetic for £30 - that's what I'm going to use next time. It also is suitable for extended drain periods too.

If you love your car use Fully Synthetic every 3k Wink
