Hello, Newbie here!
My wife's Sirion has suddenly developed a problem with the windscreen washer.
When you pull the stalk the water only comes out slowly and doesn't make it as far as the windscreen! The nearside jet seems to produce a reasonable volume but it only goes about 2 inches before looping down on to the bonnet. The offside one just dribbles a bit.
Some more details;
- When you pull the stalk the noise of the pump seems normal as far as I can remember.
- The screenwash resevioir is nearly full.
- the level drops slowly when trying the front washers. It falls quicker with the rear washer.
- It's not frozen. There is a decent scree-wash additive in there, so won't have frozen durring the recent frosts.
- The rear screen washer sems to work okay, although it might be less powerful than before - not sure about that.
Any help appreciated!
Thanks

What about the obvious?
Have you checked the pipes themselves to make sure none of them have got trapped/have kinks in them? The washers ends are free of muck and dirt?
There are no leaks coming from the water pump?

I agree with above. Failing that there may be a gauze type filter before or in the pump itself. You say the level drops even with the front one operating? This suggests a leak somewhere if hardly anything is coming from the jets.

Remove the pipe(s) from the bonnet jets and check the flow. Warm the joints with an hairdryer before tugging them, can be brittle.
If feeder pipe is ok then flush and blow out the jets.
No flow from the pipe, remove the pipe from the pump unit and test the flow.

Thanks for the replies.
Much of the pipework is hidden from view, I can't see where it leaves the reservoir. it emerges through a whole in the wing and then disappears inside the bonnet. Some of the part inside the bonnet I have inspected and it looks okay. I have checked the nozzles and they seem okay.
I don't think it is leaking because the reservoir level only drops slowly when trying the windscreen washer i.e. it drops by about the same amount as the little bit that manages to come out of the nozzles, plus it is dry underneath.
I'll try DaihatsuDave's suggestions of removing the jets etc.
It will have to wait until next weekend though...
Thanks again.

have these washer probs with all types of vehicle, my procedure usually is
1, remove pipe from back of 1 st jet and try the flow when activated, if ok its ablocked jet
2 if flow is slow/non existant then try and look for valve at the washer/bonnet end-pull pipe from that to take it out of the sytem and check flow again, if ok that is the problem.
3 if still no flow the next thing is to blow through from pump end to washer end-should be clear, if not its the pump/filter end.
Ok now
I removed the nozzles but it didn't make much difference to the flow.
I siphoned out the contents of the tank and saw that there was quite a lot of black rubbery looking particles in it. The biggest piece was about 10mm x 5mm although very thin. I refilled with water but it was still the same.
Next i poured very hot water from the kettle into the reservoir. When I tried it the flow was initially the same but then suddenly became stronger. Now the stream hits the windscreen about half-way up on both sides.
To finish I added somwe neat screen wash to make sure it doesn't freeze.
