engine swop!

Forum:

hi,
i have a 1.6i sporty, and i am finding that when i use it to pull a little boat of the beach, it struggles to go thru the soft sand..
so, i was wondering......

is it possible to change the engine to a fourtrak engine?
mine was petrol, the new one would be diesel

wil it fit, and what is required?

thanks

Anything is possible, and

Anything is possible, and believe me i have done plenty of conversions over the years, and it is not worth it.

Just buy a Fourtrak if you want the torque of the diesel engine.

If you decide to do a conversion you will want considerable skills, fabrication and welding, engineering and machining, and an ability to trace bespoke parts.

It will take three times longer than anticipated, even for an expert, and cost ten times what you anticipate. You will encounter numerous problems, and need or have access to all the equipment.

When you have done all this, then uprated the brakes, suspension, and every little job you did not anticipate you will still have problems. Sporties chassis are simply not strong enough for the weight or torque of the diesel engine, they twist in several areas.

So....

...I suppose fitting a nice, rorty Mitsubishi V6 won't be a good option, either? Shok Biggrin

If your problem is the soft

If your problem is the soft sand, what you probably want is flotation tyres. In other words fat, not too grippy, balloon tyres.
A Sporti should be more than a match for the power you need for this job.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
