The problems arise from the working angles of the universal joints, and the length of remaining piece inside on the sliding joint.
If the suspension lift and travel is excessive it will work the universal joints at extreme angles outside their designed angles of operation. This will also require the prop shaft to be longer so less of the splined section will remain in the sliding joint. This may accelerate wear on the propshaft as it only uses a small section of the sliding joint to drive, or it may pop out all together if extreme off roading.
