On Board Air

Forum:

Just wondering if anyone has plumbed in an on board air supply (on a F73 or F78), for airing up tyres and some use with air tools?

If so how have you done it?

Many thanks

i have not done it but have

i have not done it but have bieng told you can covert a aircon pump, maybe worth a google search

Have seen pics

I have seen pics of it done on a vauxhaul frontera and pics/write up of it done on a Izuzu (i think) MU, but was wondering how people fitted aircon pump etc, as from my knowledge fourtraks weren't every fitted with one (correct me if i'm wrong).

ive seen something about

ive seen something about using the aircon compresser on a landrover.. ... i think it was on a lr forum.
anyway its either a case of mounting a belt driven compressor driven off the belts on the front of the engine or an electric pump of some sort.

Air Conn

Hi.

The Fourtrak was offered with Air Conn, not sure though about UK models. My Parts CD is global, list's F70/80/90 series trucks.

hmm

Thanks for that EWS once again im wrong, with regards to the air con pump.

Still playing with ideas at the momnet, but

Any ideas as to where I might be able to get a pump in the UK, or a compatable pump?

And any ideas as to the air flow of a factory fitted air con pump??

Many small electrical

Many small electrical compressors are available, these are mainly for the operation of diff locks. Some come with small receivers and are suitable for airing up tyres. Moat will not work air tools as their Free Air Displacement is far too low, but canbe modified with the addition of a seperate receiver plumbed in to the system.

Engine driven compressor

Hi.

May I ask ,why you feel the need for this system, to operate air tools. As a On Board Air setup, with a reciever could be assembled using an top of the range electric unit, with a lot less hassle. Air tools suggesst a service truck. Just curious !!

Well

It is a good question,

I have go a 240V compressor (at a yard where I for most repairs etc) but I am often a)not within sensible range with regards to the amount of hose needed to reach all parts of the yard, b)not at the yard where the compressor is.

Also getting fed up of electric drills/grinders packing up all the time (not cheap ones, draper and others).

Will be a sort of service/special job truck (for awkward pickups/special recovery for my dads deadstock collection business), if I ever get my way. So was just seeing if any had done it before to work out costings etc

(and had got fed up with pumping up tryes a various things with a crappy foot pump lately, when compressor was in different place)

Hi. Thanks for reply. First

Hi.

Thanks for reply. First thought was commercial/lorry breakers for an air commpressor, then thought 24 Volts???? rather than 12 volts as per the Fourtrak, re the electro magnetic switching gear/drive. Check out the breakers for A/c units that fit cars and fabricate the bracketry, not sure about the drive from the crank pully, have you thought about this.

I have seen electric commpresor's, 12volt, with V twin units capable of operating air tools, sold for Search and Rescue units and serious offroad use advertised Stateside around the $500 mark, these were of the Warn brand, the winch people. Lots of info on US offroading site's. Get searching and let use know how you get on

Addition- Check the the online breakers for any Fourtrak A/C units
