craig montini, my standard fourtrack.

Newbie with Questions!!

Typical!!! Always after something!!

Were to start??? I'm thinking of gettin a Fourtrak for towing my Jimny to off road events. Take it will manage this no problem??? It'll be on a braked twin axle trailer.
I've looked and Land Cruiser Colorados etc but keep being drawn back to the Fourtrak due to its engine size and pulling power. I had one a while back, a 1993 leaf sprung. Now i'd like to go for a newer independant setup. Just wondering if theres any special editions to look out for and what i'd get for my 3-4k.

Thanks in advance.

Towing

Towing weight of an independent, indeed all Fourtrak models is 3500Kg with a braked trailer, so pulling a Suzuki is not a problem.
Fourtrak's are not that powerful compared to many of its competitors, but benefits from good torque spread well throughout the rev range, and well matched gearing. My parents used to tow a 1450Kg caravan, it was not noticeable except on the steepest hills.
£3-4K will get a good late model independent, it may take some searching out, but be patient; consider that most were sold as working vehicles and have led a hard life, most will survive this hard work if correctly maintained, and will do astronomical mileages.
Independents are more supple when towing, some may find this movement takes some getting used too, but road manners are more refined then leaf sprung models.

The indipendent is a much

The indipendent is a much more comfortable car. It is as capable towing as the older version, though the coil rear springs make it a slightly less stable platform. With just a Jimmny on the back that shouldn't notice much. It is better off road in open terain due to better axle articulation, but suffers in tighter spaces due to extra width.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
