off road in yr sporty!

Hi Alfie,
I recently bought my sporty(needed some work on it!)but when i bought it i was ready to go,i had to wait 3 mths or so for the nearest off road event which happened to be briercliffe!Although i had a few probs which needed sorting out(see my pics in the gallery and my posts in various forums)i still decided to test out my sporty, and i must say despite these problems she handled reasonably well,i think because i was inexperienced at off roading i didn't try too much so ican't tell you what they are capable of,but what i can tell you is just go to the nearest off road event watch a few 4x4's then have a go yourself!Since i went to briercliffe i'm more ambitious at what i will tackle now, iwill have a go at the steeper climbs,it just goes to show that when you been there, seen others doing it,only then will you have a go,see you at the next one,
Higgin.

A friend of mine has a Sporti

A friend of mine has a Sporti with agresive off road tyres. He and his daughter do French rondinays, Greenlaning, and occasional RTV Trilling in it. I've never yet seen the car quite befor they will. And they don't quite easilly. However if you wish to keep your car pritty, you'll have to practice much restraint.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

Sportrak off-road

Hi,

I got my sportrak last april (completely standard also), and was itching to take it off-road properly (although like you, id tried muddy fields and little tracks, etc). In August i went to the national 4x4 show where there was an off-road course and a group of 8-10 cars were taken round at a time in convoy and that was great fun, and some bits i didnt think i'd make (only had road-biased tyres and they hadnt got much tread!!), but the car was suprisingly capable. No doubt my abilities and nerve would stop before the cars ability ran out!

Didnt do any damage, either (cos i certainly couldnt afford to fix it if i did)! I think the best thing to do is to try and find a 'funday' (sorry, don't know of any down your way, depends how far you want to travel!) and then you can walk round and watch others, plan which obsticals you want to do and go for it! And if you get stuck, they'll be someone on hand with a tow rope, im sure!

I think, basically, if you avoid big ruts and trees if possible, there is fairly little chance of damage.

Regards,
Nat

off road

Just bought a sportrak having had landrovers for last 5 years. already taken it out off road. Got to say, pretty good all round, most bits in the engine bay are in the right place, i.e the dizzy is at the back!

A lot oof off road driving is how you drive, its not all spinning wheels and flying mud. Best advice, take it easy and learn.

i live in south bucks and know most of the green lanes in bucks, west oxon, and wilts, we also go to fundays near luton.

Ever fancy coming up, give us a shout.
