Hijet EFI need to know how to open the bonnet and stuff.

Hi all i just picked up a Hijet N reg van to use as a run about and already im having a heating problem, it is the same problem that seems to be all over this site and i would like to, in stages try find the cause.

So would someone be kind enough to tell me where the thermostat is so i can take off and test.

And is there anything i should know on how to bleed the cooling system.

And how do i open the bonnet?

Hijet EFI 993cc, petrol, 1995.

I have a '97 993cc and have a seperate little key for the bonnet catch right on the front of the nose?

I found 2 more keys in the glove box but no key hole on the bonnet, i then just gave the bonnet a pull and it came off, a panel about 2 foot long and half a foot wide, between the headlights, not much space to work with.

I also found and took out the thermostat, (which for other people looking there is a panel behind the two front seats and you have to unbolt this, about 9 bolts and under that your see the thermostat housing)and although it had a coating of orange crap on it, it passed the water test.

Under the passenger seat engine bay the metal cap rubber seal is breaking down, will need a new cap, but as a note today when i was geting this overheating that cap was not leaking.

No cream in oil or the water other then orange crap in water, so im at a loss as to what could be the cause.

There is a second pressure

There is a second pressure cap on the system is this OK?

Both need to have nice clean fresh looking seals if one leaks you don't pressusise the system and it will boil...

Orange water?

Hmmm...some coolants turn orange when the head gasket blows.

Get a compression test done, just because there is no water/oil contamination does not mean the gasket is healthy.

The radiator may have blocked cores this will lead to over heating.

How soon into a drive does the engine boil?

If it is in less than ten minutes then either the thermostat is not opening or the exhaust gas is getting back into the water via the head gasket or the water pump is dying/has failed.

If it is longer then the main water system needs a closer look starting with hose condition and then onto radiator pressure caps etc.

The 1000cc engine is notorious for not purging air from the cooling system so the problem may be a simple air lock...
