Wat ways to improve fuel economy.

Apart from driving slower and more consistent, less hard acceleration, having tyres inflated properly, no roofrack, windows down, better gear changes etc etc...is there any way or gadget that will provide better fuel economy?!

Supposedly Hiclone, Fuelstar, magnets are scams. I have heard that extracters, snorkel, or certain brands of air filter can help out..is this true? Or is there anything else u can do, except running your car on chip fat oil!! Laughing out loud

Ways to save fuel

Well thats quite a list of options the one left out which will save the most is "Don't use the car" :lol Laughing out loud

I think that all the gadgets will show little improvment and like most things when weighed against the outlay, it will take some time to recover the cost.

The only real saver is your right foot but we all like to push it a bit when given the chance and we enjoy it so why spoil yer fun it for a cup of fuel? Chip fat oil is a dissappearing option as prices rise and who wants a car that stinks like Macdonalds?

Regular maintenance is the way forward. On one programme recently they tested an older car before and after a service and the difference was around a 20-25% improvement.

(What the producers did not test was an LPG conversion typically £1200 installation and repays in around 30 months.)

That is probably the cheapest and simplest way to improve things by a large margin all the other scams and gadgets add little to the regular service and careful driving routine most of us employ.

Any item that does not pay for itself in an average years motoring is not worth the investment. If you don't drive more than 8-10K a year then it will never make a saving of significance.

Personally I moved from a bulky diesel auto everything MPV to my Kenari (I would have had a Move if I could find one, and Kenari are hen's teeth on the used market) and my fuel bill is now around £20/wk not £40/wk at current prices.

My next step should be to add an LPG conversion but that would cost more to install than the trade value of the Kenari, even with the promise of £12-15/wk running costs. So I am seriously looking at a modestly used Daihatsu Tanto on import 660cc and 55 to the US gallon so about 60mpg on 8 UK 20oz pints.
