welding front hubs

Forum:

I can not get 4 wheel drive on my F75 fourtrak as there is a fault on the vacuum pump i was reading past posts and i come across a post about welding the front hubs up ! Can anyone point me in the right direction ....PLEASE .
I only use the jeep when i,am going shooting so i,am not to bothered about fuel consumption on the road as i only drive around 10 miles to where i have to be . ANY HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED WinkWink :wink

The vacum pump is to do with

The vacum pump is to do with the transfur (gear) box end of the fromt drive chain. Nothing to do with the Free Wheeling Hubs I'm afraid.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

Its the wires from the the

Its the wires from the the two vsv i was told that are corroded.I have a good look and they look fine to me but i did find that the wires from the low switch had snap off ,which i have renewed and still no 4wd . So my question still stands ......

looking for help

Can someone please tell me if a have a problem with the wires from my vsv units and i fit a set of manual hubs will i be able to get four wheel drive

yes if you fit manual hubs u

yes
if you fit manual hubs u will get 4wd regardless, because the loss of 4wd is all to do with the hubs not locking up, so if u got manuals (as long as u remember to lock them!!!) you will get 4wd..

Sorry to disappoint

Sorry to disappoint you but the front hubs (either manual or automatic) are just one of the possible reasons why you don't have 4WD. If your transfer box is not selecting 4WD then you won't have any drive to the front axle regardless of whether the hubs are engaged or not. You need to determine whether you have drive to the front axle or not before you decide where the blame is. Alexxic is wrong I'm afraid.

Drive to front axle

Hi.
How I checked mine. Jacked up one side of truck,so that front and rear wheels same side were off the ground, hand brake off, and the two wheels remaining on the ground chocked. (Power applied will go through the line of least resistance ie the wheels off the ground). Put Chunky in 4WD low and got out and had a quick look underneath to see if the front prop was turning, when 4WD was engaged, with the front hubs disengaged/engaged, did this also with 4WD hi via the dash switch. Safer to place truck on 4 axle stands and do it that way. I did this to confirm that my front axle drive was there before I then investigated the problem with the auto hubs, which I have now replace with manuals from 'Milners'.

just put it into 4wd, with

just put it into 4wd, with all 4 wheels on the ground, and if u cant turn the front propshaft, the transfer box has enguaged 4wd, then take it out of 4wd, still with all 4 wheels on the ground, if u can now turn it by hand, its dissenguaged, do this a few times if u want!!!

true, but that is rare,

true, but that is rare, whereas the auto hubs are a common fault??
