YRV Turbo Brake Discs

Forum:

Got my Turbo performance discs from Japaneazicarparts yesterday, they look great!!
Also they are the right size 246mm not the wrongly listed 234mm every other supplier sells.
I think they also do 234mm performance discs for the std YRV's too.
The owners called Tim, great guy to deal with.

Regards,
Dave.

yrv turbo discs

i had look at site ,how are your brakes discs bedding in next time my discs need replacing i might go for the D-sport ones. What pads do you use and have you changed the brake lines.the brakes are the only weakness on the yrv and if use them hard you get alot of funney noises i.e clunking.
last service the dealer put SIRION RALLY 4 pads on the car so far they are bit better but i might the uprate the brake lines to get rid of heat from the fluid

YRV Brakes

Not fitted them yet, Dealership might be replacing existing ones under warranty??
Will be using EBC pads on them, low metalic compound type are kinder to discs.
Thought all Sirion pads were the same like those of the other YRV's and different to the Turbo???
Not going to change any other parts unless its worn or aged.
Dont want to get into the same habit i did with my GTti!!

After months of trying I

After months of trying I fitted REAR disc brakes on my YRV turbo and now I'm fittind 4pot calipers in front. I will probably have to change wheels for that but it's ok.
I'll post pictures s soon as it's done

Now that would be nice to see...

Foufoutos,

Wouldn't mind seeing pictures of your new brakes. Been looking through youtube as of late and noticed a YRV on there which had a bigger caliper kit on the car.

DaihatsuDave,

Hear what your saying. Feel I have the mod bug for the YRV. Spent a small fortune modding the Scooby. How are the brakes doing now you've changed them? Better braking now I bet.

Jon.

YRV Brakes

Hi jon,

It will be a frustrating bug, think all the mod parts are stored in a lockup somewhere in the far east.
Fitted the discs a few months back and they alot better.
Had to leave out the pad backing shims, the EBC's are a little bit thicker in friction material than std ones.
More material should mean they last longer but maybe its cos they dont? Scratch one-s head
Have a great Xmas!
Dave.

Hi want to upgrade my YRVs

Hi want to upgrade my YRVs rotors and calipers. I can get a nissan 4pot caliper set with 100m between the bolts so it should fit. It also needs 280mm rotors but I want to find out what is the spec of the Wilwood rotors. The height and thickness of the rotors etc.

Which kit is it on the Wilwood site?

Good Question? Hopefully someone will come alomg to help out. To expand on this subject I believe the YRV Turbo can also use Mazda RX7 Calipers and Discs with some modification.

If you can get the ABS to

If you can get the ABS to function, then what do you think you will gain from bigger brakes?

The only thing you will gain, it's better fade resistance with a bigger disc. But the standard are more than capable with the correct pad, unless you are on track.

If you want to stop in shorter distances without the ABS cutting in, get better tyres first, such as semi slicks.

i want 4 pots and bigger

i want 4 pots and bigger disks for track days. It will help with fade and reduce braking distance. The standard brakes overheat quickly and starts to shutter or start making a big noise.

It's not dificult to get

It's not dificult to get 4pot front callipers. A lot of members in YRV Forum in Singapore have bought sets of Willwood. (I boough AP Racing). The hard bit is the rear disks. You will have to wait for pics a while since i'm fitting new rim for the 4pot and they will take a while.

EBC Pads for Turbo Discs

As you now know the discs are different from the normal YRV, so are the pads!

These should fit the bill for reasonable quality pads, ironically they fit the Copen and Suzuki Ignis, they are EBC GREENSTUFF BRAKE PADS part #DP21344

See here: http://www.potn.co.uk/p1185168.htm

What about EBC yellow stuff?

Interesting that you mention green stuff from EBC. Used EBC discs and greenstuff pads on my old classic scooby a few years back, and wasn't overly impressed. A lot of people don't rate the greenstuff but opt for the yellow stuff or even the red if you use your YRV for track days. Can you get yellow stuff for the YRV?

EBC Greenstuff appears to be the only available pads for the YRV

Just been on EBC Direct and they only list Greenstuff pads for the YRV turbo. Had a look around on the net, and it appears greenstuff pads are suitable for cars up-to 200BHP Yellow stuff and red stuff are for the bigger BHP vehicles. Therefore why those pads were rubbish on my old Classic Scooby turbo. It was rated @ 215BHP.

Where from?

Where did you buy your kit from?

Just upgraded my fronts with Japaneazi drilled and grooved front discs, EBC Greenstuff pads and D-Sport braided hoses. Braking is a lot better now.
Just noticed that Japaneazi are also now selling EBC yellowstuff brake pads.
