Sportrack using oil without dropping it on the floor?

Forum:

I have recently bought a '96 anjou sportrack. It is using oil from the top of the oil dipstick to the bottom in a little over a week!. However it only parks outside and at work and there appears to be no oil on the floor.Any ideas?.

Probably loosing it throught your cylinders. Is the exhaust a blue haze? black smoke = too rich on petrol..... blue = oil burn
Whilst engine is running try holding your hand or a white cloth over the exhaust pipe. If the exhaust residue is oily then fear the worst and anticipate either a blown head gasket or worn piston/cylinder oil rings.

Take a look into the radiator coolant dont remove the radiator cap if coolant is hot, you will get scalded] Is there oil floating on the coolant - a sign of a blown head gasket.
With radiator cap removed get a friend to rev the engine. Any bubbles in the coolant suggests a blown head gasket.

Sportrack Oil Loss

Could be, but more frequent with some F300 engined vehicles, which these are,(particularly low usage one's, school run, etc.)is that the valve stem seals harden, thus allowing oil seepage on the odd occasion the engine gets some good use, i.e. when it gets properly hot!

The loss is a bit frightening and puzzling with no leaks and no obvious oil being burnt. Replacing the stem seals is simply that, though it does need the head off and dismantled with the valve springs off to do it.
